... the sun shall be turned to darkness and the moon to blood ...

Field Notes: Acts 2: 19-21

     Like many before me, my investigations into the Phenomenon have taken me to unexpected places. Through these journeys, I’ve come to believe that there exists a spiritual component to the Phenomenon that dates back millennia—long before Kenneth Arnold’s first reports of Flying Saucers in 1947.

     I do not believe that all ‘aliens’ are angels or demons, nor do I believe that all angels, demons, and the many other beings that reside in the spiritual realm, as described in the oral and written religious traditions of humanity, are all ‘aliens’ or other forms of non-human intelligences.

     All of these things can exist, and I’ve come to believe that their worlds and ours are separated by a veil. This veil might be the result of the limitations of human senses and cognition. While I don’t fully understand its nature, I spend much time studying various disciplines of science, religion, and developments in AI systems to gain a better understanding of the scientific, religious, and cognitive nature of this veil.

     I also believe that at times the veil thins, allowing these beings—angels, demons, ‘aliens,’ and non-human intelligences—to cross into our world, where we may observe or even interact with them. These interactions can range from beautiful and profound experiences to encounters that evoke pure terror.

     As an Experiencer and someone who has witnessed and experienced events that defy rational explanation, I know that the veil is very, very thin around me.

     As Expedition 37 progresses, an old army friend has spent many hours discussing the Phenomenon and Christianity with me. He is a profoundly spiritual man, and I know his faith in God is unshakable—not because he was taken to church as a child, but because God has been his guide and shepherd since his 30s when he discovered his own personal relationship with Jesus. I am fortunate to have him as a guide and mentor as I reread the Bible for the first time in over two decades.

     “Start with John, and then read Acts,” he told me. So, I have.

     In Acts, I came across a passage that I’ve returned to many times. I revisit it because I was shocked to realize that the words describe events that have been playing out in my life since I began this exploration in February of this year. As I read the words, I remember the photographs I’ve shot during this journey—many taken months before I reopened the Bible.

In light of what I have seen and experienced, I have accepted that something spiritual is interacting with me and even guiding me on this journey.

Acts 2: 19-21

19  ‘And I will show wonders in the heavens above

and signs on the earth below,

blood, and fire, and vapor of smoke;

20  the sun shall be turned to darkness

and the moon to blood,

before the day of the Lord comes, the great and magnificent day.

21  And it shall come to pass that everyone who calls upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.’
